Un activiste gay américain, qui s’est distingué récemment par la publication d’une Bible biffée au marqueur et amputée de certains passages aux ciseaux (pas moins !), a récidivé en brûlant un exemplaire rare du Coran quelque part à Chicago (Etats-Unis). L’imbécile n’a évidemment pas choisi de brûler un Coran au format poche acheté dans une libraire de quartier. Il a en effet brûlé un exemplaire du Coran estimé à 60 000 US dollars. Le gay est artiste. Et comme au nom de l’art on peut tout se permettre, même un autodafé, cet acte blasphématoire aura l’effet d’un pet de mouche.

Charles Merrill, c’est son nom, justifie ses actes (l’édition d’une Bible amputée et l’autodafé d’un Coran) par la volonté d’éliminer la haine homophobe. Selon lui, les Anciens Livres sont des manuels de terroristes. Les chrétiens et les juifs apprécieront, les musulmans connaissent la chanson.

Charles Merrill aurait hérité de ce Coran de sa dernière épouse, fille du fondateur de Johnson and Johnson, qui l’aurait reçu en cadeau, dans les années cinquante, du roi Hussein de Jordanie lors d’une mission de l’ONU.

Au-delà de cet acte criminel [rappelons, à toute fin utile, qu'en France l'outrage au drapeau et à la Marseillaise mène à la prison. Idem dans des pays européens : outrage au drapeau] très sévèrement puni en islam, ce qui est pathétique c’est le choix porté sur un ouvrage coté 60 000 dollars. Comme si cela changeait quelque chose pour un musulman. Cette cote n’a d’importance que dans un système de valeurs mercantile, dont on sait par ailleurs les excès et les méfaits. Stupidité sans nom.
